In TreatmentThat’s right. You can get the first 15 episodes of HBO’s “In Treatment” starring Gabriel Byrne at no charge. We assume that the freebies are being used to attract a larger fan base. Whatever the reason, free is free. You need a TiVo Series 2 or 3 or Amazon’s Unbox Video Player. The Amazon download process is simple but will only work with Windows XP SP2/Vista. The show is also available through iTunes and HBO’s site.

Simply Everything

Sprint has joined some of the other major mobile companies in offering a $99.99 unlimited calling plan. Referred to as “Simply Everything,” it not only includes talk, but gives you Web browsing, Sprint TV and Music, GPS navigation, text, video, and picture messaging, and push-to-talk. Existing customers can switch without a fee charge and newbies can sign up for the rate with a two year contract. While we are in no hurry to run to the company to get in on the hot deal, we hope their competitors will find this a fine time to vie for our dollars.

eneloop adaptersWe have extolled the virtues of Sanyo’s rechargeable batteries before, but we are so psyched on them that we found more reasons to invest in them.

  • One eneloop = 1000 alkaline batteries.
  • We still haven’t had to recharge them after a month of constant use.
  • You can use eneloops in most other brands’ chargers.
  • With a free coupon when we bought them, we got these super-kewl adaptors. You only need one AA battery in each to turn them into C or D batteries.

No, we don’t work for the company, but it is certainly a blessing to find a product that does what is says. We would like everyone to be enelooped.

iPod shuffleApple has lowered the price of its 1GB iPod shuffle. The musical mini-player has been reduced to $49.00 to make way for its soon to be released 2GB brother. At a size of about half a cubic inch in volume and a weight of about half an oz., the shuffle will come in silver, blue, green, purple, and a (Product) Red Special Edition, and will carry a price of $69.99. We like the idea that as more products are released, Apple has the sense to lower the old shuffle’s price, rather than charge more for the new one. Maybe they will do the same with their next iPhone.

Paradise Hotel CastIt seems that the good folks at TiVo do more than poll Superbowl commercials. They took a heartfelt survey that shows that 86% would rather stay home for dinner and a movie than go out for Valentines Day. Even more interesting are the results when participants were asked which TV show their love lives most represented.

  • Paradise Hotel 2 - Stunning and Serene 36%
  • The Biggest Loser - Difficult and Defeated 21%
  • Supernanny - Crazed with Kids 15%
  • When Women Rule the World - A One-sided Wonder 15%
  • Rock of Love 2 with Bret Michaels - Loud and Wild 8%
  • The Real Housewives of New York City - Rich and Spoiled 5%

Who are these people and where can we get our own Paradise Hotel? For those who aspire to that status, TiVo and Amazon Unbox are offering some discounted titles to watch tomorrow including “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” and a free download of BBC’s “Romeo and Juliet” for the weekend February of 15 through 17.

(Thanks, Mel)

ChollimaIf you ever wanted to purchase something from the north side of Korea, now is your chance. The DPRK (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) has an electronic shopping mall with SUVs, bikes, roller skates, and other goodies. Available in 4 languages, Chollima, named after a mythical winged horse pictured here, has been open since December. Unfortunately, it is not always reliable as we found out when we tried this weekend when we tried to access it. Still and all, we think its a good thing when other countries participate in capitalism and hope the site doesn’t stay mythical.
